What Full Refinishing Means
Worn doesn't mean worthless.
Somewhere along the way, somebody talked us into believing that a scratched top or a wobbly joint means it's time for the landfill and a trip to the big-box store. Don't you believe it. Real, solid wood, the honest kind they barely make anymore, is almost always worth saving.
A full strip and refinish takes a tired, dated, or damaged piece all the way back to bare wood, then forward again to a finish that will outlast the next twenty years of suppers. Every refinish includes:
- Stripping the old finish down to bare, honest wood
- Structural repair along the way: re-gluing loose joints, stabilizing, filling
- Careful sanding to a smooth, even surface
- Stain or paint in the color you want, advised by what the wood will actually take
- A durable protective topcoat, built up in coats with proper cure time
